Last week I was lucky enough to visit Cape Town and stay with my family. My d – i – l mentioned that there was an exhibition of schwe schwe at the Slave Museum . Schwe schwe has always been one of my most favorite fabrics, from the designs, the hardiness of the fabric and mostly the way it smells. Anyone who has ever smelled schwe schwe is instantly transported back to the previous memory they had of it.
Folklore says the name is derived from the the sound of the women walking in skirts, schwe, schwe, schwe, schwe. Well now shoes are being covered in it and are just gorgeous!
